Epic Waters in Grand Prairie, Texas

Almost two years ago, we drove through Grand Prairie and I noticed a huge construction site. I did a little investigating and learned that an indoor water park was being built! Ever since then, I’ve wanted to spend a day at Epic Waters! We finally had the opportunity to visit! I was expecting it to be fun, but you guys… expectations were exceeded!

*Honesty disclosure: My family’s trip to Epic Waters was hosted. All opinions are my own.*

We started the day off with a tour of the Epic recreation center, which is right next to the water park. That place is amazing! After the tour, my husband and I were half-joking, half serious, contemplating moving to Grand Prairie to be closer to this community center. They offer a gym, fitness classes, culinary classes, art classes, a daycare, courts, a library, and a senior citizen center. Yah… amazing.

After that quick tour, we headed into the much anticipated water park: Epic Waters! It was a cold day outside, so it felt great stepping through the doors into a warm, slightly humid climate. We saw the arcade, concessions, family restrooms, and of course the water slides. We set up camp in our cabana and couldn’t even get a family picture before our 4 year old started splashing and playing. Their kiddie area entertained Owen for hours!

All the boys loved the lazy river, and our baby J even loved splashing in the fountains!

After a few hours of playing, we were ready for lunch. You aren’t allowed to bring your own meals into Epic Waters, but there are plenty of concession stands to choose a meal from! You also have the option to leave the facility and return, as long as you get a wristband.

After lunch, my husband, Gavin, and I needed a little thrill of our own! I headed over to the wave simulator to try boogie boarding! There were also some surfers on the wave simulator who really knew what they were doing! They made it look so easy! I’m bummed I didn’t get any pictures of me doing this, but I did get some video that I will put on my Instagram!

THE ORANGE SLIDE STORY: Then it was my turn to play with the little boys while Gavin went thrill seeking on the big water slides. Gavin came back telling me I “NEED” to try the orange slide! Despite being terrified, I tried the orange slide myself. Why was I terrified? Because to enter the slide, you stand inside a tube, then the FLOOR OPENS and you drop! After the drop, the slide angles UPHILL! There is enough water pressure and force from the drop that you (usually haha) make it up the hill and drop again until you reach the bottom. It’s wild. Funny story: I included “usually” because my second time on the slide, I didn’t make it to the top of the uphill turn! I freaked out for half a second until I realized that the top of the slide was open and next to stairs, so I could easily walk right out. I would do it again!

See how the orange slide drops you at the top, goes down, then goes back up before the final fall?!

It was about time for us to leave, but Owen didn’t want to go home until we played at the arcade. We used the family restrooms to change into our clothes, we got our arcade cards, and started playing skeet ball. I kid you not Owen is the best 4 year old skeet ball player you’ll ever meet. It’s hilarious. He made it in the corner 10,000 point hole multiple times! He tried a few other games as well before we cashed in his tickets for some little prizes. The arcade was entertaining for us as adults, too!

Gavin was lucky enough to have every Friday off work last month! I love that Epic Waters is open ALL DAY EVERY DAY, no matter the season or time of year! We were able to take our trip to Epic Waters on a Friday and avoid the weekend crowds. I wouldn’t let crowds scare you too much though, because: A, the place is huge- 80,000 square feet! and B, they only allow a certain amount of visitors in at a time… which brings me to a tip: buy your tickets online ahead of time to guarantee your entrance!

Epic Waters is such a great destination for spring break, birthday parties, Dallas visitors, and Dallas residents. Check out their website because they offer travel packages, birthday packages, and season passes! Click here to go to their website. Feel free to personally ask me any questions about our experience.

I can’t wait to go back and hit everything I wasn’t able to do this first time around! There were a few tube slides I didn’t make it to this time. I would also like to work up the guts to try surfing on the wake simulator, AND I want to play in their outdoor wave pool that is opening this (2019) spring!

I hope you take the chance to visit soon! Let me know how you like it!
