Prayer Alone

This blog is a place for me to be light-hearted and fun. It’s also a place for me to express myself when I get hit with emotion. I had a few fun posts planned for this week, but due to the tragedy in Las Vegas, my heart felt too heavy to hit publish. I needed to get my thoughts out in writing, so I came to this blog, and here’s what came out. I don’t write a lot, but when I feel strongly about something, it’s the best way for me to express myself. Thank you for reading, even though I know this probably isn’t what you came here for.

Prayer Alone

Who am I to feel pain from this, when someone else just lost their mother?
Who am I to preach love, when someone else just risked their life for another?

The shooting in Vegas has sent my mind wild.
It really hits home, that’s where I lived as a child.

These past couple days have been full of reflection.
I’ve had thoughts and feelings in every direction.

There’s comfort in expressing myself to you,
so here’s what I’m thinking, not limited to:

There’s so much more love in the world than there’s hate.
The scary thing is that evil can decide our earthly fate.

So do we just give up hope? Or spread light where we can?
Even though we know tragedy is part of the plan?

They all say that love is the answer, which I believe to be true.
Some do but some don’t understand that love is something you do.

Are you making the effort to show someone you care?
Or are you simply just saying “I’ll send a prayer!”?

Prayers will be felt and ease devastation
but prayer alone won’t save our nation.

What are you doing to spread the good?
Sitting on the couch saying “If I could help, I would.”

Are you teaching your children to love and be kind?
Or expecting them to figure it out and be fine?

Are you serving your neighbor? or watching T.V.?
“If they need something, they’ll come to me.”

My prayer has been the same the past couple months.
Through hurricanes, earthquakes, and people with guns.

“Please let there be more help and hope
than loss and heartbreak in learning to cope.”

I know my words won’t change the world or make the pain go away.
I also know that life’s about the prayers we answer, and not the prayers we say.
