Hey friends!
This past week we discovered another fun little gem in the Dallas area…The River Ranch Texas Horse Park!
I keep a note on my phone titled “Texas Recommendations.” This note is just a jumbled list of anything I’ve ever heard recommended to do or see in this state. I don’t even remember where I first heard of this horse park, but I jotted it down in my note over a year ago, and finally, last month, took the time to look it up. We’ve been missing out!
By looking it up, I learned that the third Thursday of every month is their “giving back” day. They host free activities like a farm animal area, guided horse and pony rides, and a bounce house. We just attended one of their “Third Thursday” events and it did not disappoint!
Owen was of course ecstatic when he saw the bounce house. That kid… he could spend hours in those things! Initially, I had to coax him off the bouncy slide and over to the horses. He was nervous about riding a horse at first, but the staff were so great with him! They were super friendly, didn’t rush, and helped him feel brave! After Owen had one ride, he was really excited to watch other kids ride, and he was excited for his next turn.
We brought lunches and ate at the picnic tables there. We played with some of the farm animals. And, because Owen is a 3 year old boy, he played in the dirt. Note for future reference: bring a change of clothes and lots of wipes. Owen wasn’t the only kid who loved digging! (Oh and just so you aren’t completely grossed out by the dirt picture- the dirt he was playing in was not the same dirt that the horses were pooping in! He was outside the arena. Still gross, just not as gross as you might think!)
Another tip: This horse park is just minutes away from the Audubon, which I posted about recently. The Audubon also hosts a free third Thursday! How perfect is that?! I think we have a standing field trip planned for the third Thursday of every month now! Mornings at the Audubon, afternoons at the Horse Park! Want to join us?!
