You all know I’m always looking for ways and reasons to explore somewhere new, especially if it involves being outside! I had never been to the Audubon before, but it’s on every list I’ve seen about enjoying the outdoors in Dallas. You guys… Utah ruined me. Out of all the exploring I’ve done here in Dallas, there’s probably been ONE place I feel right describing as a “hike.” The Audubon was not that one place.
I’m looking for beauty in what Dallas does has to offer though. I like that there are state parks and nature preserves everywhere here! These nature preserves are nothing hardcore or National Geographic worthy if I’m being honest, but, I appreciate them. I like that they are convenient and easy to bring kids to. I like that there are no bears or cougars lurking in these preserves. I like that they are well maintained, and safe. and I like that you can experience so much lush greenery at these preserves.
That’s what the Audubon is. It used to be a dump! But was reclaimed and turned into an education center (which can also be used for events), and a place to connect with nature. The thing I thought was cool about this place was that the trails take you through 3 or 4 different ecosystems!
Throughout July and August, admission for everyone is $1. Outside of those months, admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Click here for their hours and pricing web page.
Anyways, here are some pictures from our visit:
The visitors center was really nice. They have a small educational exhibit, with maps, fossils, and reptiles. It was enough to keep Owen’s interest, so that’s saying something!
If you want more information on this place, head to their website here, or let me know if you have any questions about our visit. I hope to be exploring more places like this soon!
