One of my many bucket-list items is to visit every hot spring in Utah. I got one step closer to crossing this off when two of my sisters agreed to go to Mystic Hot Springs with me! I’m glad I’m not the only person willing to drive 2 hours from Salt Lake to soak in one of these baths for a few hours!
When we first pulled in, I literally said “This is everything I hoped it would be!” My sisters thought I was being funny, but you guys- I was being serious! Middle of no-where, hippie-central, cabins, busses, boho, sunny, snowy, no crowds. I live for those words! We all changed into our swimsuits in the main lobby bathrooms, then headed up to the tubs. We had a lot of fun taking pictures in this winter wonderland, and we enjoyed the relaxation that comes with a hot bath!
While we were soaking, “Mystic Mike” came up and took a picture of us. I started talking to him, asking him how he ended up with this property. He said that in the mid 1800’s, the “Homestead Act” was put in place in the Western states, which basically meant that whatever land you took care of was yours to own. So, somebody snatched this beauty up in the Homestead days and kept it in their family until the 1990’s. It was in the 90’s that Mystic Mike came across these springs and asked if he could buy the land. The owners said yes, then Mike turned the springs into a place of enjoyment for others. Thanks Mike!
Know before you go: Mystic hot springs has multiple bathtubs that are filled and drained with spring water, each of them are a different temperature. There are also a couple warm pools you can swim in. I debated between wearing my keens or my snow boots. The boots were nice because my feet didn’t freeze walking through the snow, but Keen sandals would have been worth wearing, to avoid having to dry off my feet every time I wanted to put shoes back on. Also keep in mind that Monroe is an extremely small town, and food sources are very limited, so pack a lunch and your road trip necessities!
