Dinosaur Valley State Park, TX

I’m always passionate about celebrating my birthday (April 20th) and Earth day (April 22nd) outside. Gavin and I had a few ideas on how to get out on this rainy weekend, and we decided on this quick day trip to Dinosaur Valley State Park.

We spent part of our day hiking around. We’re in Texas. If I find a dirt trail that ends with a view, I’ll consider it hiking! As always, Owen loved trekking and exploring. I’m learning to appreciate the beauty of the Texas sky.

Like a lot of moms, I get pretty nervous with my kid around rivers (or any water in general!). One thing I loved about this park was how shallow and slow moving the river was. We avoided getting too wet because we didn’t go on a hot and sunny day, but I loved that I didn’t really have to worry about Owen falling in! Honestly, he would have loved it if we let him fall in! How come the weather only seems to phase adults?!

The park gets it’s name from the dinosaur tracks fossilized into the river. Here’s a picture of the most visible tracks. Owen was pretty stoked about seeing these! Although I think he was disappointed that we only saw dinosaur tracks, and not actual dinosaurs.

Turns out Glen Rose, Texas is actually a pretty cool city. Within a few miles of this state park, you can also find Dinosaur World, tubing, a creation museum, and Fossil Rim Wildlife park. We’ll go back soon and let you know how these other adventures are!

Here’s a link to the park’s website for more information!
