My 2018 Word of the Year

I’m going to share a few quick thoughts on my word of the year- what it is and why I’m choosing to do my new year’s goals this way.

yah…I know it is currently February 18th but you know what? My new years resolution wasn’t to not procrastinate, so I’m good. K.

Anyways, a few years ago I noticed some people doing a “word of the year” instead of a resolution and it really struck me. I love that choosing a word to focus on throughout the year makes goals less of an “achieve or fail” thing. It was the year 2014 and I chose the word “discover.” I wanted to discover the world around me, discover the people around me, discover more about myself, discover big things and small things, etc. Having this word gave me something to work towards and something to reflect on.

Enthusiasm > Competition

Do you do a lot of self reflection around the new year? I do! I actually love New Years Day and the motivation that comes with it. When I found myself thinking about 2017, there were certain questions going through my mind. Did I grow? What did I experience? What do I regret? What was exciting/disappointing? What were the highlights? There is one question I’ve thought about more this year than in past years. The question: “What did I learn?”. My personal answer for most important lesson learned this year: I learned that enthusiasm is greater than competition.

Family Trip to San Antonio

We were so excited to have my in-laws fly in to Dallas to spend Thanksgiving with us this year! They suggested taking a weekend trip together so we could all see something new.
